In 2016 Deputy Andrew Nye was speeding on US 95 when he ran over Amber E. Viuhkola. Fast forward a couple years and the cops decide “Hey – this will be a great area to do a high speed chase at almost twice that speed.” So they do – AT THE EXACT SAME SPOT.
Here’s Deputy Nye running over Amber:
And here is the high speed chase at the same location 2 years later:
According to Ben Wolfinger, they just simply couldn’t let the suspect go for the safety of citizens, “If we have to run over a couple of people at 90 miles an hour to catch the bad guy, we’ll do it. That’s a sacrifice we all have to make.” When questioned why they couldn’t have stopped the chase and use surveillance and police work to find the suspect later, Wolfinger said, “We really don’t have great detectives, so if we think someone has committed a crime, we gotta get em right then and there. Otherwise we’ll never see them again.”
The high speed chase ended at a Pediatric Medical Office. When asked about the safety of the children, Wolfinger commented. “Yes. I care about kids. But in the end, which is more important, the safety of your children or catching a really bad guy? I think we all know the answer to that.”
